Ms. Angely Garcia is currently a Research Assistant Professor 2 at the Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines Manila (UPM). She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Our Lady of Fatima University and her Master of Public Health degree at the College of Public Health, UPM. Her works at the Institute on Aging include research and training related to the comprehensive geriatric assessment, health systems on aging, dementia, nutrition, frailty, and sensory impairments. She co-authored several publications, policy briefs, and papers for presentation to local and international aging conferences. She is also part of the Institute’s technical working group in charge of crafting position statements on policies relevant to senior citizens. Asst. Prof. Garcia actively participated in various international training programs relevant to aging such as International Institute on Ageing, United Nations-Malta (INIA) International Training Programme in Geriatrics and Gerontology in 2015, EU DREAM Research Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) Aging and Technology Program in 2018, and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Knowledge Co-Creation Program for Young Leaders in 2023. Aside from research and training, she also served as a Geriatric Clinic Nurse at the outpatient multidisciplinary Geriatric Clinic of the UP-Philippine General Hospital from 2013-2020. Asst. Prof. Garcia teaches Public Health Nursing courses at the UP College of Nursing as faculty member of the Public Health Specialty Group.
