Avian IgY Technology (December 2013)
An interesting study in the works is the investigation of Immunoglobulin Y (IgY) technology as a source for reagents in infectious disease diagnostics. Little is known about IgY technology, and IMBB fully realizes its potential applications for both human and veterinary medicine. Target infectious diseases that will be worked on are Dengue, Malaria, Salmonella, Tuberculosis and Chlamydia. In the future, it is expected that a wider range of diseases will be able to utilize the fruits of this exploration.
In the area of Therapeutics, administration of specific antibodies as an alternative to antibiotics and antimicrobial chemotherapy to treat common enteric infections is now being looked in to. With this on the way, prevention of infection in humans and animals brought about by immediate protection through immunization is already an imminent possibility.
