Lu, Jinky Leilanie

Jinky Leilanie LU was recently named “2024 STANFORD UNIVERSITY ‘WORLD’S TOP 2 PERCENT SCIENTIST”. She is a Research Professor at the National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines Manila; and University Scientist III, the highest scientific award given by the University System for scientific productivity. She holds a PhD; and Masteral Degree of Occupational Health. She has authored two books, Gender, Information Technology, and Health which won the National Academy of Science and Technology book award in 2010, and reprinted by the University of Hawaii Press, 2007; and Basics of Occupational Health and Safety: Guidebook for Practitioners and Industries. She has produced 95 journal articles, and 60 of which are either Science-Citation or Scopus-Indexed, and the Lead Author of two Patents- “Anthropometric measurement of Filipino workers – Part 1: Body definitions and landmarks” in 2018; and ISO "Ergonomics principles in the design of work systems” in 2017, both adopted and currently used as guide by the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry. As a recognized scientist in the field of occupational health and sociology of medicine, she has been invited to write chapters in certain award-winning Books-“Epidemics, Diseases, Health and Safety Emergencies Arising from Climate Change and Disasters in the Philippines”, published by Springer Singapore 2024; Handbook of Well-Being by Edward Elgar Publishing in 2017; Handbook of Food Crime by Policy Press British Library in 2018; and Handbook of Anthropometry by Springer in 2012; She has been invited as keynote speaker by international scientific organizations, including occupational health, and international women’s studies for a decade now. She has also served as special editor in the Pubmed- and Scopus-Indexed Journal, Acta Medicca Philippina. She is currently the Chair of the Mining Occupational Safety & Health of the International Commission on Occupational Health, which is the oldest scientific association in the field of occupational health founded in 1906, and recognized by the United Nations, International Labour Organization and World Health Organization. On the side, she produces and hosts radio program episodes in her field that earned her the coveted Gandingan Media Award, and Golden Dove Finalist of the KBP, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas for a number of years. She is a lover of both methodological science and the art of poetry. Jinky Lu is an engaged academic and scientist in promoting well-being through occupational health epidemiology, legislative & policy reforms, flexible institutional arrangements, & media or grassroot advocacy programs, among vulnerable populations such as the small scale-miners, farmers, female factory workers, the aging, and the road users.
