Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS)
The Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) is a system which assures quality health care for Filipinos by ensuring that health research is linked to the needs of our health system. It aims to generate research funds sufficient enough to finance the training of more health scientists and provide the necessary resources for undertaking health researches aligned with the country's National Unified Health Research Agenda (NUHRA). Its governing council has members that represent relevant sectors of society.
PNHRS's core agencies are the Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Council for Health Research and Development-Department of Science and Technology (PCHRD-DOST), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and National Institutes of Health (NIH)-University of the Philippines Manila. Besides being a major contributor of researches to the PNHRS, it was a collaborator in the technical working groups initially created by the system. Together with the DOH and the DOST, they have been working for the passage of the Philippine National Health Research System Act. This proposed bill will institutionalize the PNHRS as well as establish the Philippine National Health Research Fund which will provide subsidies for its projects.
PNHRS is part of a global movement which was espoused by the Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED) to establish national health research systems in country settings.Visit the website
